Getting started
SignOff Kit is built for Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. The same installer sets up each one, so pick your agent below. Every download also includes a step-by-step walkthrough (WALKTHROUGH.html, with a plain-text WALKTHROUGH.md and a Windows version) that covers each step in more detail.
What you need
- A Mac or Linux computer, or Windows through WSL (see Windows below).
- Claude Code, the Cursor desktop app, or Codex.
- Node 18 or later. The installer uses bash and python3, which macOS and Linux already have.
- For the paid Kit’s audit step:
npm i -D playwright && npx playwright install chromium. - For deploys (paid Kit only, and only if you want one): your own Vercel account. The agent asks before deploying anything.
1. Unzip the Kit and make a project folder
Unzip signoff-kit.zip (paid) or signoff-kit-free.zip (free), then make a folder for your site and move into it:
2. Install for your agent
Run the installer from inside your project folder and pick your agent with a flag. In the paid Kit, activate your license in the same step with SIGNOFF_LICENSE_KEY, using the license key from your receipt email.
Claude Code
Skills go into .claude/skills, and a router note is added to CLAUDE.md.
Cursor
Skills go into .cursor/skills, and an always-on rule is written to .cursor/rules/signoff-kit.mdc. .cursor starts with a dot, which makes it a hidden folder; Cursor’s file tree shows it inside your project.
Codex
Skills go into .agents/skills, and a router note is added to AGENTS.md.
SignOff Kit Free
The free installer needs no key. With no flag it sets up Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex together:
Running the installer again updates the skills and the CLAUDE.md / AGENTS.md note in place. The paid installer also accepts --global to install into ~/.claude/skills and ~/.agents/skills.
When it finishes, the installer prints the paths it wrote, a license: activated on this machine (…) line for the paid Kit, and a first prompt to try. See License, activation and refunds for more on activation.
3. Start your agent in the project folder
Claude Code
Install Claude Code, then start it in your project folder. You need a Claude Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account.
Cursor
Install the Cursor desktop app from https://cursor.com/downloads, open it and sign in. Use the desktop app rather than Cursor on the web, because the web version runs in the cloud and can’t see the folders on your computer. Then choose File → Open Folder…, pick my-first-site, and open the Agent chat.
Codex
Install the Codex CLI, let its sandbox reach the internet (the photo and video steps need it), then start it in your project folder. The first time it runs, sign in with your ChatGPT account or an OpenAI API key.
On a Mac you can use brew install --cask codex instead of the first line.
4. Kick off your first build
Ask your agent for a site in plain English:
In SignOff Kit Free, ask for site-from-brief-lite instead. The agent asks its intake questions in one message (about 15 in the paid Kit, 8 in the free one; reply skip any time in the free version), writes BRIEF.md and DESIGN.md, and builds the site into site/. It finishes by pasting the SignOff checks into its final message.
Windows
Windows is supported through WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux), which runs Ubuntu in a terminal window. You need Windows 11, or Windows 10 version 2004 or later. Install WSL from an administrator PowerShell window with wsl --install, restart, then install your agent and the Kit inside WSL. The Windows walkthrough in your download (WALKTHROUGH-windows.html) covers every step.
